Rug Doctor Instructions - How to use the Rug Doctor
Step 1
Clear out the room that you are going to clean. This means that you have to get all of the furniture that is on the floor or
near the floor, out of the room. The more open space you have, the better. Also with the cleaning power of the Rug Doctor you will be able to notice a different if you decide to clean around furniture once you move that furniture later.

Step 2
Vacuum the entire room with your standard vacuum cleaner.
This will help get the larger pieces of dirt out of the way.

Step 3
Pour ¼ bottle of the carpet shampoo we supplied you into the lower tank of the Rug Doctor machine. You will need to remove the upper white plastic "waste tank" to do this. Pour the carpet shampoo directly through the white filter screen of the lower tank.

Step 4
Fill the bucket we supplied you up to the halfway mark (around 5 litres) with hot water from your tap. The results are noticeably better using hot water.
Important - You must never use scalding or boiling water in the machine as this may cause injury to you, or damage to the machine. Always be cautious when using hot water.

Step 5
Check the connections on the back of the Rug Doctor. Make sure that both of the hoses are attached firmly to the machine.

Step 6
Choose which function you would like the Rug Doctor to do by pressing the switch on the top left of the machine. You can choose the functions "carpet" or "hand tool". Assuming you are starting with the "carpet" option simply plug the Rug Doctor into the wall. Turn the Rug Doctor on with the black power switch located on the top right of the machine. The carpet tool option is explained further down.

Step 7
Press the red button on the handle down with your thumb and begin to slowly pull the machine back. Make sure that the
base of the machine stays flat on the carpet and you should only be moving the machine about one foot every two seconds. You should start to see dirty water filling up the upper white plastic waste tank during the process. If the machine jumps slightly whilst cleaning try rotating the machine 180 degrees and repeat cleaning. This is normal, you maybe just going against the grain or weave of the carpet.

Step 8
Release the red button when you are about 6 to 12 inches from the edge of the carpet. Tilt the machine back and turn it around. Follow the same procedure of pressing down the red button and pulling back slowly. Make sure that you overlap
your previous pass by at least 2 inches to ensure the best cleaning.

Step 9
Empty the top canister when it becomes about half full or when you run out of clean water in the lower canister. The machine will make a different sound when it is out of water. Repeat these steps until you have cleaned the entire carpet.
If you are unsatisfied, redo the carpet one more time.

Hand Tool Or Upholstery Tool Instructions.
Assuming steps 1 to 4 have been carried out you are ready to use the upholstery or hand tool.

Step 1
Please make sure the machine is disconnected from the mains. Remove the hand tool pipe and head from bag. Referring to Step 5 you would have noticed 2 pipes at the back of the machine. Both are pipes clearly different sizes and cannot be confused. You will need to pull the thicker grey pipe from its present location in the machine by giving it a slight tug upwards and then re-connecting it to loose end of the hand tool.

With the last small pipe you pull the brass collar down to release the pipe. With the collar still pulled down, connect the pipe from the hand tool to it.
Make sure all pipes are connected before use.

Step 2
Locate the "function" switch on the top left of the machine and select the
"hand tool" function, then turn the machine power on by pressing the top right button.

Step 3
Pick up your hand tool and place onto the surface you require cleaning and pull the black trigger near the hand to omit the carpet shampoo mixture. Whilst doing this work the shampoo into the carpet by gently rubbing your chosen area with the cleaning head. The cleaning head has a brush built in to help agitate the carpet shampoo. Use the black trigger sparingly to apply water and use when its needed.
